Apple's WWDC to take place entirely online
Conference will be held in June with online keynote and sessions
Apple has announced that its annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) will be held in June this year as normal, but will be entirely online to reduce spread of COVID-19 (novel coronavirus).
"We are delivering WWDC 2020 this June in an innovative way to millions of developers around the world, bringing the entire developer community together with a new experience," said Apple senior vice president of worldwide marketing.
"The current health situation has required that we create a new WWDC 2020 format that delivers a full program with an online keynote and sessions, offering a great learning experience for our entire developer community, all around the world."
Additionally, Apple has committed $1 million to organizations in San Jose -- where the conference normally takes place -- to offset revenue loss as a result of the digital format.
WWDC is just the latest of industry events that have been moved to digital format, postponed, cancelled, or otherwise affected by the COVID-19 outbreak. Others affected include Reboot Develop Blue, EGX Rezzed, E3, the Game Developers Conference, esports events for Call of Duty and Overwatch League, Digital Dragons, the BAFTA Games Awards, BitSummit, and numerous others.
