Lockwood Publishing opening studio in Lisbon

New branch will open doors in March, create 30 jobs in the area

Lockwood Publishing has announced it will be opening a new development studio in the Portuguese capital city of Lisbon.

The mobile games firm, best known for social app Avakin Life, will open the office in March as part of plans to expand its business in 2020.

There are also plans to invest further in the company's Newcastle and London operations, as well as grow its office in Vilnius, Lithuania.

Lockwood Lisbon will be led by studio head Ricardo Flores, an experienced mobile developer who previously worked at Biodroid and indie studio Fun Punch Games.

The studio's formation will create 30 new jobs across a range of disciplines, including game design, coding and animation. Once recruited, this team will work with the developers at Lockwood's Nottingham headquarters on Avakin Life.

The expansion follows a boost in funding secured last August. However, as part of its growth plans, Lockwood decided to close its Leamington Spa studio last month.
