5,000 gamers assemble in New York for beat-'em-up contest.

WCG Ultimate Gamer Concludes Tonight on the Sci Fi Channel

NEW YORK, NY. April 28, 2009 - Nearly 5,000 fans and gamers converged on the Samsung Experience in New York City's Time Warner Center this past weekend for the first annual WCG Fighter Club. The first of many year-long video game events from the World Cyber Games, the premier international video game competition and festival, WCG Fighter Club pitted the world's elite fighting gamers against each other in the top fighting games on the market including Capcom's Street Fighter IV, Tecmo's Dead or Alive 4, Namco's Soulcalibur IV, and Sega's Virtua Fighter 5.

After two days of heated competition, the following gamers reigned supreme as they took home cash and digital prizes:

• Street Fighter IV - Justin 'Marvelous' Wong (New York, NY) - Justin continued his reign as the undisputed world champion beating all challengers including his rival Arturo 'Sabin' Sanchez in the finals

• Dead or Alive 4 - Jeremy 'Black Mamba' Florence (Rio Rancho, NM) -- Current WCG champion 'Black Mamba' defended his title, solidifying his name in DOA 4 history

• Soulcalibur IV - Philip Atkinson (Piscataway, NJ)

• Virtua Fighter 5 - Yohsuke Lizuka (Japan) - Yohsuke traveled all the way from Japan to win the competition

For more exciting game competition, fans can tune in to the Sci Fi Channel this evening at 10pm EST for the finale of the exciting 8-episode elimination-style reality series WCG Ultimate Gamer. The climatic ending finds Jamal 'Zophar321,' Mark 'applesauce' and Robert 'Prod1gy' battling against each other to become the Ultimate Gamer. The winner receives a prize package that includes $100,000 and the ultimate Samsung electronics package. The winner will also become the face of the WCG and represent the world's largest video gaming organization in events around the globe, including the 2009 Grand Final in China.
