Sony embraces increased next-gen software pricing
Demon's Souls and Destruction All Stars will cost $70 as PlayStation 5 console exclusives
Sony appears to be embracing a price increase for some of its PlayStation 5 launch titles, following in the steps of Take-Two Interactive.
In a blog post announcing several of the console's launch day games, both Demon's Souls and Destruction All Stars were listed for $69.99, $10 more than current full-priced titles.
Other launch day games were priced lower, with Sackboy A Big Adventure at $59.99 and Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales at $49.99, though notably Miles Morales Ultimate Edition that includes Marvel's Spider-Man (2018) costs $69.99 as well.
The price increase follows after Take-Two announced it would up the price of NBA 2K21 on next-gen consoles in the same manner, and Activision's Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War will have a similar (albeit a bit more convoluted due to backward compatibility) pricing model.
However Ubisoft affirmed that at least its holiday 2020 titles for next-generation would not take on a price increase, though it left room open to increase prices in the future.
This news came on the heels of Sony's announcement that the PlayStation 5 would launch on November 12 and would cost $500, or $400 for the all-digital version.
It is also bringing a PS Plus Collection to the console on launch day, which includes over 15 PS4 games made available to PS Plus subscribers.
