Playtika opens $6m R&D centre in Bucharest

New Romanian outfit will provide QA and testing for mobile company's games

Playtika has opened down on a new research and development centre in the Romanian city of Bucharest.

Reuters reports the Israel-based mobile games firm has initially invested $6 million into the centre, which is now the eighth R&D hub Playtika has set up around the world.

The new centre is part of a partnership with services company Qualitest, which will help establish the office and provide QA and software testing for Playtika's mobile games.

Playtika -- which specialises in social casino-style games such as Poker Heat, Vegas Words and Bingo Blitz -- has been making more moves to enter the casual games space on mobile in recent months.

In October 2017, the Israeli firm acquired Pirate Kings developer Jelly Button Games, and in December it picked up German studio Wooga, best known for narrative puzzle games like Pearl's Peril.

Earlier this month, Playtika added another studio to its stables in the form of Austrian developer Supertreat, the creator of Solitaire Grand Harvest.
