Play Ventures raises $135m to invest in game studios

Indian startup All Star Games has already received $1.5 million from the new funding round

VC fund Play Ventures has announced it closed a $135 million funding round, which will go towards investment in game studios.

This is the second round going towards the company's Play Ventures Fund, which has so far invested in 24 game companies in ten countries, the announcement said.

Play Ventures also announced the first investment coming from the new round of funding, going towards Indian startup All Star Games. Games Beat reported last month that the studio had raised $1.5 million to develop sports games on mobile.

This new funding round brings Play Ventures' total to date to $175 million, having raised $40 million in August 2019.

The company was founded in December 2018, and received investment from the likes of Modern Times Group and Rovio.

2020 was a record year for games investment, with Play Ventures playing its part in this growth. The VC fund was among the most active investors of last year, with 14 investments.
