EA goes forward with digital event in early June

EA Play Live 2020 to take place June 11, during what would have been E3 week

While other companies appear to be distancing themselves from early June after COVID-19 forced E3 2020's cancellation, EA at least is still going forward with its plans.

The publisher has announced that EA Play Live will take place on Thursday, June 11 at 4:00 p.m. PT, featuring a live broadcast, community content, and world premieres of upcoming games.

EA has been holding its own E3-adjacent event since 2016, when it declined to have a booth on the show floor and instead began hosting a multi-day festival in LA in a separate location.

That event has moved both times and locations over the last several years, most recently skipping a live press conference last year for a pre-E3 weekend event of game demonstrations and livestreams.

This puts EA in step with Microsoft in holding a dedicated conference around the time E3 would have been, with other publishers like Square Enix exploring other media alternatives like IGN's, GameSpot's, or Geoff Keighley's summer events.

Other companies, such as Bethesda and Nintendo, are skipping major showcases in June.
