EA gets golf game exclusivity for The Masters

In wake of 2K securing Tiger Woods rights, EA Sports PGA Tour becomes the only game with all four golf majors

Electronic Arts revealed this week that it has obtained exclusive rights to the Masters Tournament for its upcoming return to golf games.

With this exclusivity deal, all four major PGA tournaments -- Masters Tournament, PGA Championship, US Open Championship and The Open Championship -- will only be available via EA Sports PGA Tour: Road to the Masters.

"EA Sports is committed to growing the love of sports for everyone, and through our partnerships with the PGA Tour, Augusta National and the other majors, we will bring new and longtime fans closer to the biggest events in golf than ever before," said Cam Weber, executive vice president and GM of EA Sports.

The Masters Tournament exclusivity with EA underscores a renewed intensity to the publisher's sporting rivalry with Take-Two Interactive.

Last month, Take-Two acquired PGA Tour 2K21 developer HB Studios and singed a long-term exclusive partnership with Tiger Woods.

Woods was the long-time cover athlete for EA's PGA Tour franchise, until they made a "mutual decision" to end the 15-year relationship in 2013.

EA made one more PGA Tour game with Rory McIlroy as the cover athlete after parting with Woods, then shelved the franchise.
