Ubisoft: "Our goal is to put cross-play on all the PvP games we have"

CEO Yves Guillemot says work on this is already in progress

Earlier this month, Ubisoft-published free-to-play fighting game Brawlhalla dropped cross-platform play across all platforms. Now, CEO Yves Guillemot is committing to the same treatment for most of the rest of the company's catalog.

"Our goal is to put cross-play on all the PvP games we have, over time," said Guillemot today during the company's Q2 earnings call. "That's well on the way."

Currently, Brawlhalla is only one of a very small handful of titles with true cross-platform play across all major consoles and PC. Fortnite, Minecraft, Dauntless, and most-recently Call of Duty: Modern Warfare are some of the others (with Nintendo Switch excluded for the latter). Traditionally, the hold-up on these sorts of arrangements appears to have been Sony, but as more and more games appear with this functionality, that may no longer be the case.

Brawlhalla is one of only two Ubisoft games that allow full cross-platform play at the moment, with the other being Just Dance's World Dance Floor mode. Per Guillemot's suggestion of "all the PvP games we have," other contenders could include Rainbow Six Siege, the Ghost Recon games, The Division 2, For Honor, and much of the rest of its library. Games with PvP are making up a growing portion of the publisher's catalog, with Ubisoft stating in the last several years that it wants to move away from finite experiences.

For the record: An earlier version of this article erroneously stated that Brawlhalla was the only Ubisoft title with full cross-platform play. It has been amended above to include Just Dance's World Dance Floor mode.
