The Podcast: GDC 2017 Part II, with Raph Koster and Justin Ma

Latest episode available to download now, covering the evolution of GDC and the many challenges facing indie devs

Check your podcast platform of choice and you'll find a fresh new episode of The Podcast waiting eagerly for you.

In the second of our GDC 2017 specials, Dan is joined by long-serving game designer Raph Koster and Subset Games co-founder Justin Ma. Koster is perhaps best known as lead designer of Ultima Online and creative director of Star Wars Galaxies, while Ma and his team are the creators of popular indie sci-fi strategy game FTL: Faster Than Light.

The trio discusses how the Game Developers Conference has evolved over the years, as well as the changing role of consumer and industry events - particularly for indies. They also ponder the biggest challenges that independent developers face today, including the ever-looming obstacle of discoverability, and the rise of indie publishers.

The next episode of The Podcast will be out in a couple of weeks, and will feature Sports Interactive's Miles Jacobson and Ciaran Brennan. It'll be an interesting episode given how little myself and Dan know about football.
