Sega's John Clark moves to Tencent Europe
Clark takes on VP of partnerships role at the Chinese tech and entertainment giant
Sega Europe's executive vice president of publishing John Clark has moved to the Chinese tech and entertainment giant Tencent.
That's according to the Sega veteran's LinkedIn profile, which has him joining the Chinese firm as vice president of partnerships for Europe. GamesIndustry.biz has confirmed the appointment directly with Clark.
Clark joined Sega in 2007 as UK managing director, moving up the ladder to become UK MD and digital distribution director in 2010. In 2014 he was promoted to SVP of commercial publishing before rising to EVP of publishing three years later in 2017.
His move to Tencent follows former Sega Europe COO and president Jurgen Post making the same transition in August 2017.
While Tencent has investments and owned companies around the world, Europe appears to be where it is choosing to spend part of its cash in the games business right now. In May, it acquired Sharkmob from Malmo, Sweden, before snapping up 29% of Conan Exiles developer Funcom, which is based in Norway.
Then, earlier this month, Tencent acquired a 10% stake in work-for-hire specialist Sumo Group.
