Motiga lays off 15 staff

Redundancies made to “reduce burn rate” ahead of launch on Arc, mostly from business and operations teams

Developer Motiga has laid off one fifth of its staff as it continues work on upcoming MOBA Gigantic.

The layoffs were confirmed to Destructoid by CEO and founder Chris Chung, who said 15 of the studio's 82 employees were dismissed, although stressed that it was largely business and operations divisions.

"Any kind of layoff is tough, but this was done to reduce our burn rate until we get to Arc launch, which will happen in a few months," he told the site.

Arc is Perfect World's games platform, which serves as an online portal fro free-to-play games. Gigantic was originally due to be exclusive to Xbox One and PC, but when Microsoft pulled out of its publishing deal, Motiga was compelled to find additional platforms.

Sadly, layoffs at the studio seem to be an almost yearly occurrence at this stage. The firm dismissed 16 employees back in December 2015 and temporarily dropped "a significant percentage" of its workforce last year.
