Magic Leap now open to developers through Creator Portal preview

Meanwhile, Unreal Engine and Unity add support for ambitious new augmented reality platform

Developers can finally start work on their projects for Magic Leap as the company launched its Creator Portal.

Currently a 'technical preview', Magic Leap launched both the initial version of its portal and the Lumin SDK for its augmented reality platform during this year's GDC in San Francisco.

In a statement announcing the release, the company wrote: "These tools and resources are the first opportunity for creators to dive into the world of spatial computing and explore the building blocks of this next generation of human-computer interaction on Magic Leap."

The firm has already secured the support of the two leading game engine providers, Epic Games and Unity. On their respective blogs, theUnreal Engine and Unity teams detailed the resources, documentation and sample projects available to users hoping to build games for the new platform.

Magic Leap One, the first iteration of the company's headset, is currently due for release later in 2018. The device was finally unveiled back in December.

Interested in the new augmented reality program continues to build, despite how mysterious the company has been about its technology over the years. Earlier this month, the firm secured another $461 million in funding.
