Zynga investing in Harry Potter, Game of Thrones titles

Both licensed games will be casual, mobile experiences to be developed at company's US studios

Zynga will continue to delve into licensed IP for its casual mobile games in the coming year, and is focusing on two hefty names to do it: Harry Potter, and Game of Thrones.

According to Zynga's latest financial report, the company will invested in licensed games for both franchises for release in 2019.

The first, a Harry Potter match-3 title, will be licensed through Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. The second, a Game of Thrones social casino slots game, goes through HBO. An additional Game of Thrones title is also in the works.

These are in addition to the work Zynga's NaturalMotion studio is doing with Disney to work on one, and possibly two upcoming licensed Star Wars titles.

Both the Harry Potter and Game of Thrones games will be developed at Zynga's US studios.

"This starts to fill out our product lineup from big licenses that we wanted to go after," said CEO Frank Gibeau. "Building an audience in mobile can be tough and a license gives you a leg up."
