Zynga hires iPhone open source gurus

Key contributors to cocos2d join social games firm

Social games company Zynga has acquired two developers responsible for the cocos2d iPhone open source project, Ricardo Quesada and Rolando Abarca.

cocos2d is widely used for iPhone, iPad and Mac games from the likes of ngmoco, Atari, Gamevil and Zynga, and the two will continue to contribute to the project.

"Zynga has long been an advocate of the open source community and we are excited to have Ricardo and Rolando continue to support and contribute to cocos2d for iPhone while in their new roles at Zynga," said the company.

"We look forward to advancing the cocos2d for iPhone open source project alongside the cocos2d for iPhone developer community."

Zynga has not acquired community site cocos2d-iphone.org, which will continue to be managed separately by Ricardo Quesada and other cocos2d administrators.
