Zelda: Breath of the Wild triumphs at Game Developers Choice Awards

Multiple wins also secured by Gorogoa and Cuphead at San Francisco ceremony

The 2018 Game Developers Choice Awards were held last night, with Nintendo's The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild emerging as the biggest winner.

The reinvention of Nintendo's classic adventure franchise took home three gongs, including the coveted Game of the Year award. It was also honoured for Best Audio and Best Design.

The only other games to win in more than one category were puzzle game Gorogoa, which took Best Mobile Games and Innovation Award, and Cuphead, Best Visual Art and Best Debut (for its developer Studio MDHR).

The awards were held during GDC 2018 in San Francisco and attended by some of the biggest names in the industry. Other winning games included Giant Sparrow's acclaimed What Remains of Edith Finch, Sony's epic new IP Horizon: Zero Dawn and the VR adaptation of indie hit Superhot.

As previously announced, Double Fine founder Tim Schafer took home the Lifetime Achievement Award, while Vlambeer's Rami Ismail was honoured with the Ambassador Award.

There was no Pioneer Award this year, following controversy around plans to hand it to Atari founder Nolan Bushnell.
