Xbox reviving X0 event this November

X018 will be held alongside FanFest in Mexico, with major announcements streamed online

Microsoft has announced it is bringing back its annual X0 events, with X018 being held in just a couple of months.

The event began as a trade show back in 2001 and has previously been used to make major announcements. It was held in various different cities around the world, with the last being held in Toronto back in 2013.

During the latest episode of Inside Xbox, the platform holder's head of Xbox Phil Spencer announced the showcase would return with X018 on Saturday, November 10th. It will be held in Mexico City, alongside the firm's fourth annual Xbox FanFest, with more than 10,000 fans in attendance.

Xbox will also stream any news and announcements online as part of another episode of Inside Xbox, with additional news expected to be broadcast via Mixer over the course of the weekend.

In the past, Microsoft has used the X0 events to announce everything from key first-party titles like Fable and business developments such as the acquisition of UK developer Rare.

Spencer hinted at the weight of previous announcements, but gave no indication as to whether we should expect this from X018. However, reports back in August suggested there were some reveals planned for Gamescom that got pulled, including "all-new Xbox hardware" and the All Access subscription service (which has since been launched).

It makes sense for Microsoft to revive the event at a time when the other two platform holders are creating dedicated showcases to their portfolios away from trade shows. Sony hosts its PlayStation Experience in December, where it typically announces blockbuster exclusives, while Nintendo unveils new titles throughout the year via its Nintendo Direct broadcasts.
