Unity and Google Cloud unveil Open Match

Matchmaking technology project made open source, game engine agnostic

Today, Unity and Google Cloud have unveiled the result of a partnership to develop an accessible matchmaking technology for developers, called Open Match.

Open Match is a scalable, reusable matchmaking technology that can be integrated across different types of projects and then customized for each. The goal is to allow developers to focus on matchmaking logic rather than create the tech itself from scratch.

Though the technology is co-founded by Google Cloud and Unity, Open Match will be open source and engine agnostic. That said, Unity will continue to work on matchmaking technology with Open Match as the baseline to benefit those working in its engine.

A GitHub repository has been opened for further developer contributions to the project.
