Ubisoft partners with Mozilla on AI coding assistant

Clever-Commit promises to quickly identify and fix bugs from code changes

Ubisoft has announced a new partnership with non-profit software firm Mozilla to develop a new AI coding assistant.

Clever-Commit has been designed to help programmers evaluate whether a code change will introduce new bugs.

The partnership was unveiled this week at the DICE Summit in Las Vegas by head of Ubisoft La Forge, Yves Jacquier.

After prototyping at Ubisoft's Montreal research lab in collaboration with Concordia University, Clever-Commit promises to be able to quickly identify and fix bugs.

According to Ubisoft La Forge, eliminating bugs can absorb up to 70% of development costs, and estimates the AI could save up to 20% of programmers' time.

"Working with Mozilla on Clever-Commit allows us to support other programming languages and increase the overall performances of the technology," said technical architect Mathieu Nayrolles.

"Using this tech in our games and Firefox will allow developers to be more productive as they can spend more time creating the next feature rather than fixing bugs.

"Ultimately, this will allow us to create even better experiences for our gamers and increase the frequency of our game updates."

The AI has already contributed to the development of Ubisoft titles and the publisher is currently working on wider integration across its other brands.

Additionally, Mozilla will integrate Clever-Commit into the Firefox developer workflow.
