Tencent invests in Wizard Games

Amount is "in the range of several hundred million RMB" and will be used to grow Chinese studio's international footprint

Tencent has invested an undisclosed amount in the Chinese developer of Battle Teams, Wizard Games (无端科技).

Though a precise amount could not be shared, Wizard has disclosed that the investment is "in the range of several hundred million RMB," likely putting it somewhere between $30 million and $140 million.

Additionally, Chinese non-profit networking group P&G Alumni Network, of which Wizard Games is a member, has speculated on We Chat that the financing amount is expected to exceed $100 million.

Wizard will use the funds from the investment to grow its team as well as grow its international business, particularly as it works on a sequel to Battle Teams, Battle Teams 2 (生死狙击2) -- expected to release globally in 2021.

The studio is also working on a new sandbox title called Sea of Craft, also expected to release in 2021.

Wizard Games was founded in 2010 and launched its shooter, Battle Teams, in 2013, which now has over 30 million MAUs. The company now has over 300 employees and has published a total of over ten titles.
