Team Sonic Racing delayed until May 2019

Return of Sega-themed kart racing series was due on shelves before Christmas

Sega has taken the decision to delay Team Sonic Racing by several months.

Originally announced at E3 2018, the game was given a rough release date of 'Winter 2018', which typically means a game will arrive around November or December.

However, the official Sonic The Hedgehog Twitter account has revealed the racer has slipped to May 21st, 2019.

"To make Team Sonic Racing the best game it can be, we're giving the team extra time to work on it," the publisher tweeted.

"We know delays are no fun, but quality matters most. Thanks for your patience - we've got more to show you for TSR very soon."

Team Sonic Racing is the successor to the two Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing games, last seen with its Transformed outing in 2012.

Like the previous two games, this next entry is being developed by UK studio Sumo Digital, which is also making Crackdown 3 and Dead Island 2.

We spoke to the studio earlier this year about how it balances multiple AAA projects.
