Sumo Digital opens new Warrington studio

The Sumo North West will expand the company's services into tech and engineering

UK developer Sumo Digital has opened a brand new studio in Warrington.

The branch is the company's seventh UK studio -- eighth globally when you include the team in Pune, India -- and will be known as Sumo North West.

The studio will be led by Scott Kirkland, previously co-founder of Motorstorm developer Evolution Studios.

Sumo Digital is best known for its co-development and work-for-hire projects, having developed Crackdown 3, LittleBigPlanet 3 and the Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing series (including this year's Team Sonic Racing).

The opening of Sumo North West marks an expansion of the company's services, with the team concentrating on "high-end engineering and code support services."

In the announcement, Sumo Digital managing directory Gary Dunn said there are already multiple projects lined up for the team.

The developer is hoping to draw on the region's talent pool, where both Evolution Studios and Wipeout developer SCE Studio Liverpool were based, to build its team.
