Starbound sales pass 2.5m

Chucklefish's sci-fi adventure reaches sales milestone in six months, next update will expand on space gameplay

Independent studio Chucklefish has revealed the latest sales figures for its hit action-adventure Starbound.

According to the studio's latest blog post, the procedurally-generated sci-fi title passed 2.5m sales over the Chirstmas holidays - just six months after the game came out of Early Access.

Starbound took five years to develop, and work on the game continues with a patch released earlier this month and a new update in the works. Community manager Molly Carroll teased that the next one will flesh out a part of the game that both the team and its fans are keen to explore further: space.

Thanking the community, she wrote: "I'm trying to visualize a crowd of two and a half million people, but I'm struggling. We'll just go with... that's a lot of people? That's a lot of copies! That's a lot of alpaca suits and Matter Manipulators and dead Poptops.

"So thank you for sticking with us over the years, for buying and playing our game and recommending it to your friends and having faith in our ability to pull this whole thing off. We couldn't have done it without you."
