Roblox Corporation is at last rolling out its social and game creation platform, Roblox, to an international audience. Support has been made available in Spanish, with more languages to come later this year.
Known by sight for its Mega Bloks or LEGO-like characters, Roblox is a game creation tool released on 2006 for PC that has since spread to mobile, VR, and Xbox One. Despite only ever being available in English, Roblox nonetheless boasted over 64 million active users as of the end of last year, with over 29 million created games. In particular, its parental controls and simple-to-use tools make it an inviting platform for younger players to foster a love of creation and development.
Leading the international support endeavors is the newly-hired president of Roblox International, Chris Misner. Misner is a former Apple executive with experience in reaching a global audience, having led International Expansion & Emerging Markets for the Apple Online Store. He also worked as general manager of the store's Asia-Pacific region during his twelve-year career at the company.
By bringing functions such as community moderation, customer support, and parent resources into other languages, Roblox Corporation hopes both to expand its global audience and better guarantee a safe platform for younger players who are already playing in countries where English is not the primary spoken language.
Currently, Roblox has active players in over 40 countries. Though only Spanish has been added so far, French, German and Brazilian Portuguese support will launch in the coming months and more languages are expected to follow.
