NPD to track digital spend in Europe

Quarterly report will focus on UK, Germany and France from Q4

The NPD Group is to launch its Total Consumer Spend Service in Europe.

As well as providing sales estimates for boxed products, the service will track consumer spending across areas not currently covered in Europe - rentals, the pre-owned market, mobile games, DLC and subscriptions.

The UK, France and Germany will be the first European markets covered by the new service, beginning with Q4.

"The new digital distribution channels in video games are not country specific. They are global in nature, which is why NPD is taking its proven, proprietary methodology, developed over a number of years, and applying it to a global perspective," said Anita Frazier, NPD analyst.

The NPD Group, which provides consumer spending information for a number of industries, also intends plans to expand into the Asian markets at a later date.
