Nexon has revealed that MapleStory Universe will allow users to create and manage non-fungible tokens.

As reported by VentureBeat, the news was announced at GDC by the title's project head Sunyoung Hwang.

Nexon will partner with Polygon Labs; the blockchain tech firm will be providing business and technological support for the new MapleStory title.

"We are looking forward to expanding the NFT ecosystem envisioned by MapleStory Universe by building on Polygon, the top protocol for Web3 gaming. It is the perfect choice to power the ecosystem," said Hwang.

"We will work closely with the team at Polygon Labs to develop and market the game."

MapleStory originally launched on PC in 2003, and its sequel MapleStory 2, was released in 2015.
