Netmarble moving US office to Los Angeles

South Korean mobile firm wants better location as it ramps up Western expansion

Netmarble has announced it will shortly be moving its US operations to downtown Los Angeles.

The mobile publisher is headquartered in Seoul, South Korea, but currently handles its Stateside business out of Buena Park.

The LA Times reports the move will take place in June and has been arranged with help from real estate firm Cresa Los Angeles and landlord Omni Group.

"We want to be in the centre of the action because Western expansion is a key drive of us expanding our business," chief of US operations Simon Sim said.

"It makes a lot more sense to be downtown than stay in Orange County."

Netmarble floated last year, raising $2.4bn in its initial public offering, and has enjoyed huge success with its high-end mobile MMO Lineage 2: Revolution.

It also generates significant business with licensed titles such as Star Wars: Force Arena and Marvel: Future Fight.

Last week, the firm invested $190m in popular South Korean boy band Big Hit, taking a 25.71 per cent stake in the group.

Yesterday, it emerged that Netmarble was one of three firms being fined by the Korean Fair Trade Commission for misleading customers with in-game loot boxes.
