Kwalee opens Portuguese office

New location to be led by CTO Pedro Caria

Casual games publisher Kwalee has opened an office in Almada, Portugal.

It's the company's fourth international office after it launched studios in Bangalore, India, and Beijing, China in 2020.

Kwalee's new Portuguese office will act as "technology hub for the company," the announcement said, leading its R&D efforts.

This new location will be headed by Pedro Caria, who's been CTO at the publisher for over five years, having originally joined Kwalee in 2012. He will continue to oversee the firm's tech teams globally in addition to leading the new Portuguese office.

Caria commented: "The metropolitan area of Lisbon stood out as the ideal location for our first office in mainland Europe thanks to its great talent pool.

"With the area's growing reputation as a startup hub and with talented graduates coming from so many excellent technical universities in the area, I believe we have an opportunity to break new ground in tech to cement our status."

Earlier this year, Kwalee acquired French developer Tictales for an undisclosed sum.

We talked to CEO David Darling last summer about the company's £20 million growth spurt in India.
