Kotaku UK shutting down

Rights reverting to G/O Media as Future Publishing decides not to renew licensing deal

The UK version of prominent games media outlet Kotaku is closing.

The news was revealed in a statement on the site, indicating that the localised version of Kotaku will no longer be operated by Future Publishing.

Future launched Kotaku UK back in September 2014, licensing the brand from former parent Gawker Media.

However, the magazine publisher has decided not to renew this deal, which expires on Wednesday, September 9. No reason for this decision has been given.

As of Wednesday, the rights revert to Kotaku's current parent G/O Media, with the US-based team continuing to operate the site and produce content.

Kotaku and fellow Gizmodo-owned brands were sold to the newly-formed G/O Media last year.
