Warframe maker Digital Extremes has announced that James Schmalz is no longer CEO.

Schmalz will remain on the company's board of directors. Steve Sinclair, previously as creative director, will step into the role.

Meanwhile, Sinclair will continue to oversee the development of the studio's next title Soulframe.

Schmalz established Digital Extremes in 1993; the studio has developed titles such as The Darkness 2, Dark Sector, and its current free-to-play title Warframe.

"It's been a long journey from Epic Pinball to Soulframe. I feel immensely privileged to have been able to play my part in shaping our industry; building our stellar team has been a fulfilling life work," said Schmalz.

"I feel in Steve we have the ideal leader to take us and our growing community of players into a new era and can't wait to see what can be accomplished under his leadership."
