Five companies awarded £10k for game prototypes

Northwest Vision and Media dishes out grants for Get in the Game project

Five digital companies in the North have been awarded GBP 10,000 each to develop prototypes in the second annual Get In The Game commissioning project.

Initiated by Northwest Vision and Media and with support from Sony Computer Entertainment and Pixel-Lab, Get in the Game is designed for companies from the digital and games sectors to collaborate and improve pitching projects.

Liverpool firms Milky Tea and Pixinworks, Manchester companies Savvy Productions and Connect2Media, and Leeds based Grant Midwinter will each receive grants to develop prototypes to be pitched to Sony, Blitz and Channel 4 for full funding in Spring 2010.

"One of the best things about Get In The Game is that it's attracting companies that don't make traditional games, and they often bring fresh, innovative ideas that are a bit left field," said Toby Barnes, managing director of Pixel-Lab.

"This year we have had a rush of new multiple platform projects, digital distributed games, and interesting control mechanics. It's exciting that this project could lead to some very unusual games being produced."
