European trade bodies unite for Eurovision-style Gamescom contest

Live showcase hosted by Mr Midas will celebrate the best unreleased games from across Europe

Seven trade bodies from various European nations have joined forces for a special games competition this summer.

The EuroPlay Games Contest is being positioned as the "Eurovision of games", as will be held on August 28, alongside the various digital events running in the place of this year's cancelled Gamescom.

The contest is the work of UK trade body UKIE, the Flemish Games Association, Czech Game Developers Association, the organisers behind Poland's Games Industry Conference, the Romanian Game Developers Association, the Serbian Games Association and the Latvian Game Association.

Australian trade body Interactive Games & Entertainment Association is also involved.

The event will centre around a live showcase, hosted on Twitch by influencer and TV Presenter Mr Midas, which will show off the best unreleased games from European developers.

Each trade body will select finalists to represent their country in the contest, with a public vote via Twitter choosing the winner.

UKIE will be shifting its usual UK Game of the Show competition, which takes place at every Gamescom, into the same format to decide on the UK's entry. This will take place on Monday, August 24.
