Eurogamer expands to the US market with acquisition

Media business adds IndustryGamers.com and Modojo.com to its network

The Eurogamer Network has announced the acqusition of games content publisher Hammersuit, which includes the US trade site IndustryGamers.com and mobile gaming site Modojo.com.

Hammersuit also provides content to businesses including The Ayzenberg Group and Prima Games, and will take responsibility for representing the Eurogamer Network's existing brands - including Eurogamer.net, GamesIndustry.biz, VG247.com and Megaton - in the US market.

"We have been looking for the right opportunity to expand our business across the Atlantic and we are delighted to complete the acquisition of Hammersuit," said Rupert Loman, MD of the Eurogamer Network. "They are a great fit for us and the potential as we expand our business to North America is huge.

"We already have a significant US readership that values our distinctive editorial voice so adding a local team will greatly strengthen our offering for readers and advertisers in both Europe and North America."

And John Benyamine, co-founder of Hammersuit added: "The whole team at Hammersuit is looking forward to being part of the Eurogamer Network. Their reputation precedes them in the US, and we have no doubt this marriage will lead to even more success in the near future."

IndustryGamers was founded in in May 2009 by Hammersuit and journalist James Brightman, who now holds the role of editor-in-chief.

"I've been following the progress of the Eurogamer Network for a very long time now and the dedication of their team is inspiring," he said. "I'm thrilled to be joining forces with one of the premier brands in gaming media, and I'm eager to turbocharge the business on this side of the Atlantic."

Benyamine, Brightman and the entire Hammersuit team will stay with the business following the acquisition.
