CI Games partners with Defiant Studios for Lords of the Fallen 2

Polish publisher was "impressed with their game concept" but gives few further details on future of the series

Despite radio silence long past its originally planned 2017 release, Lords of the Fallen 2 is still happening. CI Games will partner with Defiant Studios for the sequel to the 2014 action RPG.

The New York development studio was founded in 2016 and is led by managing director David Grijns, formerly of Avalanche Studios. In addition to Lords of the Fallen 2, it is currently developing other unannounced projects.

Lords of the Fallen sold over two million copies across PC and console and was developed by Deck13. When Lords of the Fallen 2 was initially announced in 2015, it was revealed that Deck13 would not be working on it, but a new developer was not named at the time.

Lords of the Fallen 2 was originally planned for a 2017 release, but news around it has been quiet since the game lost its executive producer in 2015.

"We talked to a number of globally respected studios that had shown a strong interest in making the next LotF, and received several solid pitches," said Marek Tymiński, chief executive officer of CI Games. "We finally decided to move forward with Defiant because we were impressed with their game concept, production expertise, and the pedigree of their developers."

The news today did not include a new release window or further information on what the sequel would entail.
