Chinese regulators fine Shanghai-based game publisher $163,000

Authorities seized the revenue generated from all seven unlicensed games the firm published

Recently a Shanghai-based tech firm has received a $163,000 fine for publishing unlicensed games in China.

As reported by South China Morning Post, the fee is one of the largest for this type of offence.

Chinese regulators said that the company published seven online titles without approval. All revenue generated from these games were seized by authorities; the exact amount is unknown.

Additionally, gaming firm Yuhong Games was identified as a developer and publisher for three of the unlicensed games that were released by the offending firm.

This news continues to follow China's stricter regulations regarding video games and their publishing.

In April, China ended its nine month ban on game approvals and, in March, the Cyberspace Administration of China has introduced a new proposal for rules further restricting access to online services in the country, including games.
