God of War reaches ten million lifetime sales

Meanwhile, streaming be part of Sony's "mainstream business model" with its next-gen console

PlayStation 4 exclusive God of War has sold more than ten million units since launching in April last year.

Developed by Sony Santa Monica, it joins Uncharted 4 and The Last of Us Remastered as some of the platform's highest selling exclusives.

The figures were revealed during an investor presentation by Sony Interactive president and CEO Jim Ryan.

During the presentation, Ryan also confirmed that game streaming will be part of Sony's "mainstream business model" with its next-gen console.

First details of the hardware were revealed last month, but for the first time Sony showed off some of the console's capabilities courtesy of its new solid state hard drive.

Footage of Insomniac's PlayStation exclusive Spider-Man showed the game load in under one second, compared to the eight second loading time of the PlayStation 4 Pro.

While Sony is yet to reveal any further details of the new console, Ryan's presentation confirmed the PS4 would remain the "engine of engagement and profitability for the next three years."

That's hardly surprising, given that the ageing console has now sold 96.8 million units since launching in 2013.

If the PS4 still has three years as the leading revenue driver for PlayStation, it would match the nine year lifespan of the PS2 which sold 159 million units.
