First iPhone offering from new Brisbane-based studio Play This!

BRISBANE, Australia., 12 November 2009 -- Play This! Studios today announced that Whirl’d, the company’s first title, is now available on Apple’s App Store at a price of 99c (USD).
David MacMinn, Director of Play This! Studios said “We are extremely proud of our first title, and excited by the opportunities that the iPhone platform has given small studios.”
“Never before have small teams had such an opportunity to reach so many consumers for relatively small start up costs. The ability to work in small teams, with some members in different countries, has enabled us to deliver a fantastic game in a short time,” Marty Portier, co-founder of the studio explained.
“For us, this was all about delivering on several key areas we believe bring about success in this market. Firstly, you need a solid game mechanic that utilizes the unique abilities of the iPhone. Then you have to deliver a competitive product in terms of visuals and longevity, and finally, you need to price it right. We felt that 99c (USD) for 99 levels of fun was a great way to enter the market and increase our brand awareness”, said David MacMinn.
With over 16 years combined experience around the globe in the games industry, the founders of Play This! Studios believe they are in a good position to build momentum going forward. “We see “Whirl’d” as a stepping stone to bigger things, with the goal to have several projects in production simultaneously”, added David MacMinn.
