Valve: New Intel tech means "console-like experience on PC"
Newell hails Sandy Bridge CPU as "a game changer"
Valve boss Gabe Newell took to the stage in support of Intel's new Sandy Bridge PC processor platform at CES last night.
The upcoming second-generation of the Core i7 CPU features on-chip 3D graphics processing, which Intel claims performs better than 40 to 50 per cent of standalone graphics cards on the market.
"It's a real game changer for us," said Newell, claiming that Valve's upcoming Portal 2 had been made with the new processor family in mind. With separate graphics cards installation in theory no longer required, "this allows for a console-like experience on the PC."
"The new 2nd generation Intel core processor represents the biggest advance in computing performance and capabilities over any other previous generation," claimed Intel PC Client Group vice president Mooly Eden.
