Ubisoft tests limited revenue sharing for Rainbow Six Pro League

Pilot program to see 11 teams take portion of in-game item sales for one year before revenue sharing introduced for entire league

The Rainbow Six Pro League is taking its first steps into revenue sharing, and it's doing it at a pace befitting the tactical shooter franchise. Ubisoft today announced a pilot program for the Pro League that will see 11 teams (about one-fifth of the squads worldwide) receive revenue sharing based on the sale of specific in-game items.

The 11 participating teams are split between the game's four main regions (Europe, North America, Latin America, and Asia Pacific), and each will have a charm and weapon skin with its branding offered during the pilot program. For these sales, 30% of the revenues will go to the team featured on the in-game item. During the pilot program, Ubisoft will also offer Pro League-branded skins and charms; 15% of the revenues from those will be split between the participating pilot program teams, with another 15% being added to the Six Invitational 2019 prize pool.

"For us, the pilot program is a way to reward the teams that are contributing to the League and help it grow," said Ubisoft EMEA esports director François-Xavier Dénièle. "For fans, we believe it is one of the most direct ways to show their support to specific teams and players. With this program, we are expanding on the Team Charm initiative we ran with different teams during last year's Pro League seasons."

The pilot program will run for the next year (encompassing seasons eight and nine of the Pro League), after which the league expects to roll out "a more finalized revenue-share format."
