Ubisoft and Eidos veterans launch Tribute Games

Montreal studio will focus on retro games for mobile and console

New start up Tribute Games has launched in Montreal, founded by former Ubisoft and Eidos employees Justin Cyr, Jonathan Lavigne and Jean-François Major.

The studio will focus on "retro games with a modern twist" for console and and mobile, and the company's first game will be WIZORB for PC and Xbox Live.

"Jean-François Major, Justin Cyr and I have been working together for several years and we also developed Wizorb together during the past 6 months," said Lavigne on his blog.

"So, we decided to join forces and form our own  video game company. Justin is an awesome pixel artist, animator and aspiring sound designer and Jean-François is our mastermind programmer."

Cyr and major both worked for Ubisoft Montreal, while Lavigne is best known for indie title Ninja Senki.

Between them the team has around 30 years of games industry experience and has been involved with Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, TMNT, Shaun White Snowboarding and Star Wars: Episode 3.
