TIGA calls for increased game tax credits due to COVID-19

Ten proposals submitted to UK chancellor include worker safety nets, rent relief, increased testing

The Independent Game Developers' Association has tabled ten proposals to the UK chancellor to help support the games industry through the difficulties associated with the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).

Among TIGA's proposals is a request for an increase to the rate of video games tax relief and R&D tax reliefs, as well as fast-tracking business' claims on both.

Other proposals include requests for funding to support full-time, part-time, contract, and self-employed workers across the UK, business rent relief, increased testing for COVID-19, clearer information distributed on both relief services and government plans, and encouragement of VC investment.

Some of these proposals were addressed in part or in whole earlier today, with the chancellor's announcement of economic support measures including grants to cover up to 80% of employee salaries up to £2,500 a month.

This came alongside the announcement of lockdown measures being put into effect today in London.
