Tencent to publish Game of Thrones mobile game in China

Yoozoo is developing Game of Thrones: Winter is Coming through a partnership with Warner Bros

Tencent has partnered with Shanghai-based developer Yoozoo and Warner Bros to publish a Game of Thrones mobile game in China.

As reported by Abacus News, Game of Thrones: Winter is Coming is the result of an agreement made last summer between Yoozoo and Warner Bros for a mobile title based on the IP. The game will be a strategy title and is not the same as the mobile Game of Thrones: Conquest, already out in the west.

The report notes that Game of Thrones is heavily censored in China, with nudity and some of the show's especially graphic violence cut. Though neither was likely to make an appearance in an app, there is some concern that the game may be similarly restricted to its detriment.

Tencent is on a roll when it comes to publishing popular IP in China, especially on mobile. Late last year, it announced it would publish PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds in the country. That was followed up this year with the company's publication of Fortnite coupled with a $15 million investment toward its success. Tencent also has partnered with Ubisoft with the aim of publishing both its PC and mobile titles in China.
