Stardew Valley was the world's most downloaded Switch title in 2017

But Minecraft: Switch Edition dominates in home territory of Japan

Nintendo has released the rankings for the biggest digital Switch titles, and indie darling Stardew Valley is the global leader.

The platform holder released two charts via its official website, showing the eShop titles that achieved the most downloads since Switch launched in March. One charts covers Nintendo's home market, while the other encompasses all overseas markets together.

On the latter, Stardew Valley was ranked No.1, followed by Minecraft: Switch Edition and Sonic Mania in second and third respectively. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the rest of the Top 30 is made up of indie titles.

The most downloaded first-party title for the rest of the world was Snipperclip at No.5, followed by the Arcade Archives edition of Super Mario Bros at No.11.

Meanwhile in Japan, Minecraft was the most downloaded title, followed by Snipperclips and a dating sim spin-off of the Senran Kagura series. Similar to the overseas chart, the majority of games in the Top 30 are independent, with Super Mario Bros once again the highest ranking first-party title.

Tentpole releases such as Zelda and Mario do not appear in either chart, indicating Switch owners prefer physical editions when it comes to larger titles.

Nintendo did not share exact download figures for each title, but it's been well-documented that many indie studios are seeing better sales on Switch than all other platforms combined.
