Star Wars Jedi: Survivor takes No.1, but sales down on its predecessor | UK Boxed Charts

Dead Island 2 sales only dropped 45% in its second week

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is this week's UK boxed No.1, and the second biggest game launch of the year.

The EA game sits behind Hogwarts Legacy but well ahead of Resident Evil 4 in this year's list of fastest-selling boxed games in the UK. It is also the eighth biggest Star Wars boxed release from the last 30 years.

However, the game's opening week's sales are 35% lower than what its predecessor, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, managed. This chart is only boxed sales, and although Fallen Order was only released in 2019, digital accelerated quite a bit during the pandemic. Therefore, the comparison may not be quite so negative when the full data is in later in the week.

Jedi: Survivor also had a much higher retail price. Data firm GfK says the average physical selling price was £65.86 on PS5 and £67.72 on Xbox, which is over £10 more than what Jedi: Fallen Order was being sold for. As a result, revenue was only down 19% compared with its predecessor.

82% of the game's sales were on PS5, while 18% were on Xbox. Again, this will likely change when the digital data arrives, due to the popularity of digital on Xbox platforms.

Last week's No.1, Dead Island 2, slips to No.2 in the boxed charts. It's an impressive second week for the game, with sales only down 45% week-on-week, which is unusual for a AAA action game (the drops tend to be a bit more severe). Deep Silver has already revealed the game has sold one million units, which is a strong result in this market.

This is all boxed sales. Two thirds of Dead Island 2's first week's sales were via digital download stores, GSD data shows.

Elsewhere, FIFA 23 is back at No.3 after a 3% sales increase week-on-week. Mario Kart 8: Deluxe holds No.4 despite a 3% sales drop, while Hogwarts Legacy is back in the Top Five at No.5 after a 12% sales improvement over the week before.

Minecraft Legends, which debuted last week at No.2, is down to No.7 after a 62% sales drop. And Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp, which arrived on Nintendo Switch last week and managed No.3, is down to No.17 after a 70% sales fall.

Here is the GfK UK Boxed Top Ten for the week ending April 29, 2023:
