Silverfit

European Innovative Games Award bagged by Silverfit's gesture-controlled system for the disabled and old folk.

BRUSSELS, Belgium - Nov. 12, 2009

The SilverFit system - a tool for physical therapy that uses computer games and gesture recognition technology to train people – won the first prize in the category ‘Innovation Application Methods and Environments’ at the European Innovative Games Award 2009 (EIGA) held in Frankfurt on November 6. The EIGA rewards the most innovative European-developed games. For more information please visit: http://www.innovative-games.eu/#.

The SilverFit system is recognized for its ability to help seniors and disabled individuals start and maintain physical therapy regimens with physically engaging interactive software. It trains seniors and disabled individuals to execute all large body movements prescribed in rehabilitation after a stroke, hip injury, and other common medical incidents. The SilverFit virtual therapy system is powered by Softkinetic’s leading 3D gesture recognition platform, iisu™. Softkinetic’s iisu technology recognizes users’ body movements and gestures, providing live feedback to guide them through exercises.

"The Silverfit system makes it possible for 80 or 90-year old people to use computer games for the first time," said Joris Wiersinga, co-founder of SilverFit. "What’s remarkable about this technology is that it allows people to train more often, recover faster and have fun in the process without continuous supervision by a therapist. We are very proud to have won this award and we hope that this recognition can help us reach more users in Europe."

"Our partner, SilverFit, is a deserved winner of this prestigious award. They have shown that with the help of physiotherapists, interactive media can change the lives of seniors and disabled individuals by helping them become more active and independent," stated Michel Tombroff, CEO of Softkinetic. "This application of our technology in physical therapy is very rewarding because it means that we have succeeded in helping people live fuller and richer lives."

In addition to the European award Silverfit is also nominated at the 2009 Dutch Game Awards recognizing the achievements of the interactive entertainment companies in the Netherlands. The SilverFit system is nominated in the Best Serious Game category.

The Dutch Game Awards 2009 are taking place on Nov. 12 – 13, 2009 in Amersfoort, The Netherlands. For more information please visit: http://www.gameinthecity.nl/2009/english/dutch-game-awards-2009/
