Sega of America has unveiled the first batch of titles it plans to release for the Wii's Virtual Console, which will be priced at 800 Wii points per game.

The 2006 line-up includes Sonic the Hedgehog and Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine, Altered Beast, Golden Axe and Gunstar Heroes. Classic puzzler Columns will also be on offer, along with Ecco the Dolphin, Space Harrier II, Ristar and Toe Jam and Earl.

According to an official statement, the Virtual Console service will feature a "best of" selection of Sega games that will be updated with new content each month. Prices will start at 800 Wii points per title - the equivalent to USD 8.

That's the same starting price Nintendo has announced for SNES titles, although NES titles will cost from 500 Wii points. Hudson said its Virtual Console offerings will cost 600 points and up.

"Nintendo has offered a great gateway in bringing classic Sega titles to Wii console owners," said SOA's VP of marketing, Scott A. Steinberg.

"This is only the beginning though, as you can expect to see more announcements regarding other legendary titles from Sega's catalog coming to the Wii Shop Channel in the coming months."
