Retail points to Xbox 360 price cuts for Christmas

Struggling UK chain Woolworths offers Arcade, Premium and Elite units at discounted prices

UK retail chain Woolworths is to cut the price of the Xbox 360, following a similar move by Microsoft in the US.

The Arcade SKU is due to retail for GBP 129.99, the Premium or Core unit for GBP 169.99 and the Xbox 360 Elite for GBP 229.99, according to a scan from the company's latest catalogue, reproduced by Engadget.

The three units currently sell for GBP 159.99, GBP 199.99 and GBP 259.99, respectively.

It is not yet clear whether this is an official Microsoft price cut, or a retailer-led initiative.

Microsoft's most recent Xbox 360 promotion in North America caused a huge spike in sales last weekend, as retailers reported between 100 and 600 per cent sales growth as consoles were dropped to USD 199.

Woolworths and Microsoft had not returned calls from GamesIndustry.biz at the time of writing.
