Realscan 3D Saves Productions Time and Money With RealCapture NexGen™

New Scanning Pipeline Integrates Seamlessly with Productions; Creates Digital Doubles in Less Than a Week and Drastically Cuts Time Needed for Talent Approval

Realscan 3D ( www.Realscan3D.com), a leader in high resolution, high color structured light 3D scanning, has posted some images from the results of its RealCapture NexGen scanning pipeline. RealCapture NexGen creates and delivers animation-ready precision digital replicas for video games and other entertainment productions in a fraction of the time traditionally required. The process creates an exact 3D replica of the talent, cutting the amount of time productions need for talent to sign off on their likeness.

"You no longer need a lot of time to create digital assets worthy of the next-generation game consoles, movies or television," said Frank De Marco, CEO of RealScan 3D. "RealCapture NexGen adds value to productions by producing a digital double of the talent suitable for cinematic or game productions in a matter of days - not weeks. This leads to quick approval by the talent, keeps clients on-budget and allows in-house production and modeling resources to focus on other tasks."

Realscan 3D produced a photo-real precision game-ready, fully-textured, normal mapped double of Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson for Midway Games Spy Hunter: Nowhere to Run, in only three days. Johnson plays the role of the game's hero, Alex Decker. The resulting 3D scan of "The Rock" can be seen at: www.realscan3d.com/spyhunter.html.

"Until now, the creation of digital doubles has been dependent on the creation of hand-modeled interpretations of talent by artists, or scans of colorless lifecasts that are re-textured with photo references that contain baked-in highlights," added Joel Thornton, CTO of Realscan 3D. "These processes are prone to errors and frequently push productions behind schedule and over budget. RealCapture NexGen creates an exact likeness of the talent in one pass and at a fraction of the cost."

RealCapture NexGen is currently in use on a number of current video game and upcoming features, including Jerry Bruckheimer Films' "Déjà Vu," directed by Tony Scott, and Walt Disney Pictures' "Underdog."

Realscan 3D is a Los Angeles-based effects company specializing in the creation of film quality digital doubles using structured light 3D scanning. Increasingly recognized as the premier 3D scanning boutique for film, television and video game productions, Realscan has created digital doubles for a wide variety of games, films and companies, including Midway; The Collective; Walt Disney Pictures' "Sky High"; Jerry Bruckheimer Films' "National Treasure"; FOX Television's "American Idol"; Nintendo; and Wal-Mart.
