psai

Dynamic music system to be shown off in Cologne.

6th August 2010

psai ® , Periscope Studio Hamburg’s unique interactive audio middleware for videogames, is quickly generating interest from the videogame development community. It might be lauded as a “brilliant” and an essential element in the creation of immersive gaming, but the real innovation is in psai ® ’s ease of use and implementation.

Thorsten-Tobias Heinze, Product Manager for psai ® CORE middleware explains. “A major benefit of psai ® is that there is absolutely no impact on a developer’s workflow. For example, if a game level requires a re-design usually every element is affected; including music. This means that a composer needs to revise the music score in-game to accommodate the changes. But - because psai ® has an intelligence and an advanced logic-based system - with psai ® CORE middleware installed and controlling the music, whatever changes are made to the game, the overall audio component is completely unaffected”.

In addition to the middleware’s advantage in production workflow, is psai ® ’s simple implementation. psai ® CORE middleware provides a unique gaming experience for every player, but this is a new direction for audio in videogames, and therefore developers. Being acutely aware that psai ® CORE middleware is still unique in a market that doesn’t want anything to possibly impede game development, Periscope Studio Hamburg ensures that psai ® has only advantages for developers. It has been designed to have little or no impact on the production of a new videogame, it has been designed to work on all hardware formats from PC to console and has only a minimal footprint on game code, is very simple to use and implement, and can be integrated into all game engines.

Thorsten continues, “The big difference to traditional mp3 in-game tracks is that psai ® is able to go from any situational music theme to any other as the player progresses on his own terms. With psai ® CORE, the engine is so flexible it can cope with any player’s style of gameplay in any situation and the soundtrack still sounds like it was composed to fit that situation perfectly. psai ® CORE powered games deliver a cinematic experience and take a huge step closer to the total immersion of the player into their videogame adventure.”

Periscope Studio Hamburg will be present at GDC Europe and Gamescom in Cologne (Business Center, Hall 4.2, M32) in August. Visit www.periscopestudio.de or contact PR and Marketing manager Cornelius Wiegmann - cw@periscopestudio.de to book your meeting.
