PS3 tops Japanese software chart with Kidou Senshi Gundam Senki

Sony console outperforms in software as well as hardware chart; top ten sees four new entries

As the console outperformed all of its rivals in the Japanese hardware chart this week, Sony enjoyed similar success in the software one as PlayStation 3 new entry, Kidou Senshi Gundam Senki: Lost War Chronicles, went straight into the chart at number one.

The game sold 178,000 units to shunt last week's number one, Tomodachi Collection, into the number two position, despite the DS title experiencing a nine per cent sales increase to 87,000 units.

Former number two game, Dragon Quest IX, dropped to number three this week, while Wii Sports Resort dropped two places to number five with a 36 per cent sales drop.

DS money-based game You'll Incur Losses If You Remain Ignorant, and eternally popular PSP title Monster Hunter Portable 2 G both remained in last week's positions of number eight and nine respectively.

The top ten saw four new entries in total. As well as the aforementioned PS3 number one, Konami's Love Plus entered at number four, Level 5's Sloane and HacHale's Mysterious Story 2 entered at number seven, and Spike's 428: Fuusa Sareta Shibuya de made its début at number ten.

Meanwhile, four titles dropped out of the top ten to make way for them: Dream C Club, down from number four to 17; Soul Calibur: Broken Destiny, down to number 14; Super Robot Gakuen, down to number 21; and Hakuouki Zuisouroku, which dropped out of the top 30 altogether.
